D & M Fruiters, another string to the bow!

1962 - 1969

1962 saw Ted and Margaret with their son Kevin, move to 51 Westway in Caterham, Surrey. This was previously a Haberdasher's and Wool shop, it had a two bedroom flat above, which became home to Ted, Margaret and Kevin. Soon it was re-modeled into D & M Fruiters. The D stood for Doris, Teds mum and M for Margaret, obviously the two influential women in Ted's life. Margaret worked full time and Doris worked part time in this shop, again a big triumph, the new greengrocery shop in Caterham on the hill, along with the greengrocery round Ted was operating in Warlingham brought rewards through the hard work.
In time, Doris was off opening her own shop in Caterham Valley.
Ted also at this time rented out cars for hire, a Triumph Herald and a Ford Anglia, the Empire was growing.
